After many years of operation in India, Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet, Motorcycle Expeditions is now proud to offer our customers this pure motorbike tour through unseen Thailand and Laos. It’s a guided motorcycle experience through endless hairpins, tarmac and gravel. Laos is untouched by mass tourism, and promises authentic culture and beautiful people, living in a serene landscape. We visit different tribal communities during our ride, among whom, the “Long neck tribe” is the most popular. Thailands’ century-old traditions and heritage and its lush, pristine landscape are simply breathtaking. We use high standard accommodation to rest overnight. The roads are great and the bikes eat up the twisties through magnificent scenery and at the end of the day a frosty beer always awaits at the pool-side – a true holiday on two wheels. Join us for a wonderful lifetime experience on the road between Thailand and Laos.

A Motorcycle Expeditions representative will pick you up from Chiang Mai International Airport and you’ll be transferred to the hotel. You may spend the day in Chiang Mai at your leisure. Dinner and overnight at a hotel.
After a briefing session, we ride north to Tharntong waterfall, Mae Kachan hot springs and to Kwan Phayao, one of the largest lakes in Northern Thailand. Here we enjoy a sumptuous lunch, before we ride along the impressive mountain highway No. 1148 (ranked in the top 10 for best riding fun globally), to Nan. We visit Wat Phra That Khan Noi before relaxing into the swimming pool at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
The spectacular mountains and valleys of Doi Phukha and Khun Nan National Parks brings us to the Laos border via Bo Kluea. A visa on arrival to Laos is possible and the easiest way to cross into Laos (1.500THB Visa fee). Here, we switch to riding on the right side of the road. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant and then we cruise to Xayaboury. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
Today is all easy cruising to Luang Prabang. We’ll ride along an impressive mountainous road, enjoying the fabulous scenery and cross the Great Mae Khong River. We also visit the world famous Kouangxi Waterfalls. These falls begin in shallow pools atop the hillside and the water collects in numerous turquoise blue pools as it flows downstream. After a relaxed lunch at a local restaurant, we continue our ride until we reach Luang Prabang and our charming accommodation. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
This UNESCO “Best preserved city in South East Asia”, is a gleaming fusion of traditional architecture with a stunning mountain backdrop. You could visit the former royal palace turned into a National Museum or the Wat Xieng Thong, “Temple of the Golden City”. The 329 steps to the top of Mount Phousi are well worth taking for a beautiful sunset view over Mekong River and Luang Prabang. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
We ride through the picturesque bliss of a limestone karst landscape where roads begin to dissipate into the stunning mountain scenery. After a local lunch, an impressive mountainous road takes us to Vang Vieng, past the famous Tham Jang cave that was once used by local people as a hideout from Yunnanese invaders in early 19th century and over the river to Ban Huai Ngai. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
After breakfast, we ride to the Capital of Laos, Vientiane. More spectacular views from above, take us to our lunch stop at Nam Ngum, the largest dam in Laos. We’ll visit the Patuxai Monument, which is well known as Vientiane’s own “Arc de Triomphe”, Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple of the town still in its original form and the former royal temple of Wat Prakeo on our route. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
Before breakfast, very early in the morning, you’ll have the opportunity to offer food to monks along street of Chiang Khans’ local market. After breakfast, we’ll ride along a twisty road to discover Khao Kho, “Thailand’s Little Switzerland”. On the way, we’ll visit Wat Pha Son Kaew, “the ceramic and celadon temple”. Khao Kho is a district over 1.000 meters above the sea level with a misty, 360° panoramic view and refreshing weather all year (18-25°C). Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
At the start of the days’ journey, we’ll visit Khao Kho Memorial Sacrifice Monument, the Weapons Museum and Khao Kho Temple. Between 1965 – 1984, this mountain area was the battle field of the Thai Communist Party and the Thai Royal Army. Then, we continue downhill, cruising to Chat Trakan Waterfall National Park and after lunch, we wind our way to Uttaradit and our relaxing accommodation near the river. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
From Uttaradit, it’s a highway cruise to Den Chai, where we visit a large reclining Buddha. Some more winding mountain roads take us to Lampang. Lunch is served at a local restaurant. We pass through national parks and farming areas, visit a local market and stop for refreshment, before heading back to Chiang Mai. A farewell dinner will be had to celebrate a wonderful journey and new friends. Dinner and overnight at a hotel.
Check out by noon. You’ll be transferred to Chiang Mai International Airport to catch your flight to your onward destination. Should you wish to discover more of Thailand, we’ll be happy to help with further arrangements.
