With the most epic and tallest mountain vistas and endless grasslands interspersed with yaks and alpine lakes as far as the eye can see, a motorcycle tour in Tibet is without a doubt one of the most remarkable adventures you could possibly embark on. While traversing some of the worlds’ highest motorable roads among the breathtaking high-altitude landscapes, you’ll be introduced to one of the most likeable peoples you will ever meet. We are taking you on an expedition around the central part of Tibet, which is known for its rich heritage and vibrant monasteries. Join us on a showcase of unrivalled Tibet.

A Motorcycle Expeditions representative will meet and greet you at the Lhasa Gonggar Airport. From here, you’ll be transferred by private vehicle to your hotel in Lhasa. Your afternoon is free to explore the capital. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
We’ll greet the day with a visit the Jokhang Temple in the heart of old Lhasa. In the afternoon you’ll be presented with your Royal Enfield motorcycles and receive a briefing on road safety and rules. Then we’ll take an acclimatisation ride to Ganden Monastery, located 45 km east of Lhasa. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
The morning sees us visiting the majestic Potala Palace, one of Asias’ most iconic and monumental architectural marvels, residence to His Holiness the Dalai Lamas from the 5th who started construction in 1645, to the 14th who went into exile in 1959. We’ll enjoy lunch back at the hotel before setting off to Yangbachen. Dinner and overnight stay at a Hotel / Guest House.
A small south-westerly trail through Tibetan villages and over 2 high passes takes us to the main Northern Route from Lhasa and we head west to Shigatse, a famous ancient cultural city where many Panchen Lamas have been authenticated during the years. The world renowned Qomolangma Peak (Mt Everest) can be seen to the south. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
Before riding the road to Shegar, we’ll visit the Tashi Lhumpo Monastery, founded in 1447 AD by Gendun Drup, the first Dalai Lama. It is the seat of the Panchen Lama, second to the Dalai Lama in the Tibetan Buddhist Hierarchy. We continue on the Friendship Highway to Lhatse and over Gyatso La (pass at 5228m) to the bustle of New Tingri / Shegar. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
The way to Rongbuk leads us past a police check point to enter the Qomolangma (Everest) National Park. After lunch we’ll ride to the tented settlement of Dza Rongphu. From here, we can finally view the magnificent Mt. Everest from her basecamp – Mother of the Earth at 8848m. Dinner and overnight stay at a guest house.
A small dirt track leads us over a bridge and up a steady climb through scattered Tibetan settlements and a village before descending steeply. Full of dust we’ll arrive at the high Tibetan plateau with good views of Cho Oyu (8201m) and enter the settlement of Tingri, an old Sherpa bartering town. The rest of the day is free to relax or explore. Dinner and overnight stay at a guest house.
The highest plateau of the world will captivate us with a most spectacular Tibetan landscape. We will traverse 2 high passes, which should, under clear conditions, provide a breathtaking panorama of the Himalayan ranges including Mt Everest. Paikut Tso, a beautiful turquoise blue, high-altitude lake in the middle of the desert landscape is our destination. Dinner and overnight stay at a guest house.
Todays’ route promises to be a splendorous one, any photographers’ dream come true. We follow the Brahmaputra River, ride through traditional villages, past Monasteries perched high on the cliffs, across the sandy and rocky landscape of Tibet. Colourful nomads chasing countless sheep and yaks brighten up our route. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
Before mounting our steeds for yet another spectacular ride towards Shigatse city where we’ll stop for lunch. We will also visit the Sakya Monastery. A slow ride with a strict speed limit takes us to Gyantse. Later in the afternoon, we’ll pay a visit to Gyantse Kumbum. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.
In among the magnificent views, traversing no less than 3 mountain passes, we’ll ride by the brilliant, turquoise Yamdrok Tso, largest of the 4 holy lakes in Tibet. The village of Nagartse, close to the lake, makes for a perfect lunch stop. We’ll descend into Lhasa after lunch. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel.

After a life-changing trip across the roof of the world, you’ll be transferred from your hotel to Lhasa Gonggar Airport to board your flight home at the appropriate time.
